Alpine Trading Advisors seeks to provide capital appreciation in the commodity futures market. Alpine utilizes a computer driven model along with the extensive experience of our professionals. Our secondary goal is to try to achieve superior risk adjusted returns, relative to appropriate benchmarks. TRADING PHILOSOPHY • Utilize the entire futures market • Trade identifiable waves, not “sideways” markets • Identify and trade the strongest commodity in a group • Seek to limit losses per trade to 1-2% of principal • Adjust stop loss points based on current volatility of market • Trading position is generally held from 1-10 days TRADING METHODOLOGY Alpine’s trading method begins with a computer driven model that seeks to replicate the actions and responses of top futures traders. We first try to identify trends that may be building in any of the futures markets. Entry points into a trend are determined through an analysis of current price actions and patterns. Depending on the power of a trading wave and the pattern it is developing, we could either enter on strength or buy a dip. One very critical ingredient to superior performance is to trade only the strongest commodity in a particular group. Our research has shown that performance can be greatly improved by being in the group leader (for example, wheat instead of corn, beans, or oats). These leaders and laggards are determined by our proprietary relative strength models and are monitored daily for any changes. It is important for us to be both vigilant and flexible, as the leader can change numerous times during the course of a major group trend. We utilize the information given from specific daily price patterns as opposed to a moving average technique. This allows us the ability to react closer to real time than a multi-day average. Through our extensive trading experience and modeling technique, Alpine believes it has a methodology able to adjust to most changing market conditions.
